I was invited by the Romulo Maiorana fundation to take part at the arteparà 2000 exhibition. This annual art prize gather the key Brazilian artists in Belèm, north of Brazil, together with guest artists selected in relation to the exhibition theme. the 2000 theme was about the influence of italian art and culture into the art and culture of the state of Parà.

I was invited by the Romulo Maiorana fundation to take part at the arteparà 2000 exhibition. This annual art prize gather the key Brazilian artists in Belèm, north of Brazil, together with guest artists selected in relation to the exhibition theme. the 2000 theme was about the influence of italian art and culture into the art and culture of the state of Parà.
I participated with a project realized in Rome. The original prints I presented were part of a work carried out during the period preceding the European parliament election in 1999. The streets of Rome were covered with posters of candidates attached everywhere, one over the other and over other advertisement, ignoring any regulation, in a rush to cover the direct opponent and being the first to smile to the elector walking on the pavement.
Bizarre and unexpected patchworks, these photographs of photographs create a parallel world, a metaphor of what Italian (and worldwide?) politic has become. confusion, ambiguity, contradiction, paradox, arrogance, egotism come all straight towards the viewer bringing his ideas closer to chaos than clarity. If politicians are representing people in our societies and their manner are coherent with the way they advertise their run for a seat it is not too difficult to conclude why this is the society we deserve.
